The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia announces that Chief Judge Timothy C. Batten, Sr., will retire on May 23, 2025, following more than 19 years of service to the Court. He was nominated by President George W. Bush and received his commission on March 28, 2006. He holds a B.S. from Georgia Tech and a J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law. Judge Leigh Martin May will succeed Judge Batten as chief judge beginning May 24, 2025. She was nominated by President Barack Obama and received her commission on November 14, 2014. She also has a B.S. from Georgia Tech and a J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law.
