Important Changes to Attorney Admissions in the Northern District of Georgia Beginning April 15, 2019

Wednesday, March 20, 2019

Effective April 15, 2019, the process for attorney admissions in the Northern District of Georgia will change in connection with the Court’s implementation of NextGen CM/ECF.  To accommodate this transition, the last application under the legacy attorney admission procedure will be accepted on Thursday, April 4, 2019, and the final weekly admission ceremony under the legacy procedure will take place on Monday, April 8, 2019, in the Atlanta division.  No attorney admission applications will be accepted from Friday, April 5, 2019, through and including Sunday, April 14, 2019.

CM/ECF logins and passwords will be generated and distributed by the Clerk’s Office through April 8, 2019.  After April 8, 2019, attorneys must wait until April 15, 2019 and then request access to the Court’s e-filing system through PACER.

Beginning April 15, 2019, attorneys will apply for admission through the PACER website.  After they have been approved for admission and paid the admission fee, attorneys will be admitted and given access to the Northern District of Georgia e-file system.  Attorneys no longer will be required to appear in person for an admission ceremony, but an optional ceremony will be held on the first Monday of each month in the Atlanta division.  If the first Monday is a federal holiday, the optional ceremony will be held on the second Monday.  In addition, optional ceremonies may be scheduled by appointment in the Gainesville, Newnan, and Rome divisions by contacting the clerk’s office for the division.

Note regarding admission pro hac vice:

The procedures for seeking admission pro hac vice will not change, and applications for admission pro hac vice may continue to be filed during and after the transition period.  However, the method for requesting CM/ECF filing access will change.  Attorneys admitted pro hac vice beginning April 8, 2019, must request filing access to this district through PACER beginning April 15, 2019, unless they already have a CM/ECF login and password for this district, in which case they will not need to request filing access but will need to link their legacy CM/ECF account for this district to their individual, upgraded PACER account beginning April 15th.

If you have any questions, contact the clerk’s office at 404-215-1600.
