Attorney Admission Procedures

ELIGIBILITY
Any attorney who is an active member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia, (LR 83.1).

PLEASE READ COMPLETELY

GENERAL INFORMATION

Fee:
$150.00 - cash or check (payable to "Clerk, U.S. Distrcit Court"). Checks are accepted subject to collection.

Date:
In Atlanta, admissions proceedings are conducted every Monday morning. (Attorney admissions will no longer be held on Tuesday if Monday is a holiday.) No appointment necessary. In Gainesville, Newna, and Rome, proceedings are not conducted weekly and you must call in advance for an appearance date.

Time:
In Atlanta, report (with completed application, fee and sponsoring attorney) between 8:00 and 9:00 A.M. Attorney's must be processed and in the designated courtroom by 9:20 A.M. The Admissions proceedings in open court begin promptly at 9:30 A.M.

Application:

  1. Bring it with you. Those received in the mail will be returned.
  2. Complete all blanks except for the judge's signature line. A fillable form is available here
  3. The signaturesof two sponsors are required; all attorneys signing this form are subject to verification of enrollment and good standing with the State Bar of Georgia prior to application approval. The attorney moving for applicant's admission signs on the third line (the movin attorney can be one of your sponsoring attorneys). All sponsoring attorneys must be active members of the Bar of this Court. The names must be typed to the right of their signatures.

Mandatory:
MUST personally appear to take the oath AND
MUST be accompanied by a member in good standing of the Bar of this Court to move for applicant's admission in open court.
A State Bar of Georgia bar card and photo identification are required.

Criminal/Disciplinary Record:
Include traffic violations. Date, location and brief description of infraction required. A Department of Motor Vehicles Report is NOT required.
